Real Adventure

There are very few adventures and adventurers that make an impression.
Ernest Shackelton stands out. Then there is the Australian Jon Muir who walked 2500 km across  Australia- unsuported! I was lucky enough to see his movie Alone Across Australia – a story about a man who takes his dog for a walk… If you ever get a chance to see it or even better own the movie do so. It is truly inspirational! Check out this interview about another trek he did. This one only 1600 km or so! Then there is this blog of local South African Kyle who is walking around South Africa.

What do they have in common? They quietly went about their adventure, doing it for themselves. Not like the modern Faceblogging, I’m so hard core, look at me posers with massive sponsorship deals and wannabe attitudes.

Clearly this has been bugging me for a while and I have not come up with a coherent rant on what true adventure is. In my mind it needs to be something that inspires and not just clogs our inbox with drivvel.

I would love to hear your ideas!

Oh and then there is this dude called Mike Horn who has done some stuff…. 😉
